Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia welcomedapproximately 1 million domestic and international visitors during the 2019Lunar New Year holiday, up 8 percent against the same period last year.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, the numbersof domestic and foreign travellers saw annual increases of over 11 percent andover 2.5 percent, respectively.
During the period, Siem Reap province, which houses the AngkorWat temple complex, served more than 90,000 arrivals, rising about 4 percent onyear. Of the sum, 40,000 were foreigners.
Meanwhile, 20,000 holiday-makers flocked to the popular eco-tourismdestination Mondulkiri, representing an annual increase of 12 percent.
In 2018, Cambodia recorded more than 5 million touristsvisiting the country, with tourism contributing 32.4 percent to the nationalGDP. It set a goal to push the figure to 12 million in 2025.-VNA
