Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia welcomed approximately 1 million domestic and international visitors during the 2019 Lunar New Year holiday, up 8 percent against the same period last year.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, the numbers of domestic and foreign travellers saw annual increases of over 11 percent and over 2.5 percent, respectively.
During the period, Siem Reap province, which houses the Angkor Wat temple complex, served more than 90,000 arrivals, rising about 4 percent on year. Of the sum, 40,000 were foreigners.
Meanwhile, 20,000 holiday-makers flocked to the popular eco-tourism destination Mondulkiri, representing an annual increase of 12 percent.
In 2018, Cambodia recorded more than 5 million tourists visiting the country, with tourism contributing 32.4 percent to the national GDP. It set a goal to push the figure to 12 million in 2025.-VNA
