Phnom Penh (VNA) – The 7th Cambodia Rice Forum (CRF), the largest annual event of Cambodia’s rice sector, opened in Phnom Penh on September 10, gathering 350 domestic and international delegates.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the CRF Board of Directors Oknha Song Saran said that in the past 10 years, Cambodia has exported 6.1 million tonnes of rice to more than 100 markets through 234 enterprises, but currently only more than 30 enterprises can maintain regular export activities.
Cambodia’s rice production rose from 8 million tonnes to more than 12 million tonnes in 2023, ensuring domestic food security and exporting more than 650,000 tonnes of rice.
Oknha Song Saran said that the forum aims to strengthen and expand Cambodia's rice supply chain.
The forum had three discussion sessions on various issues, including Cambodia’s agricultural competitiveness and resilience, ESG (environmental, social, and governance) standards and sustainable finance for the rice sector, as well as world market trends and food security matters.
Within the framework of the forum, a number of exhibitions were held to introduce products and services related to Cambodia's rice industry./.
