Cambodia sees garment exports surge in six months

Cambodia’s garment exports in the first half of this year reached nearly 1.56 billion USD, representing a year-on-year increase of 32 percent.

According to the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, the US remained the largest market of Cambodian garments with a turnover of 660 million USD during the period.

The country’s garment products enjoyed a gigantic year-on-year growth of 45 percent in the European market, bringing home 532 million USD.

There are about 500 garment factories in Cambodia, employing about 500,000 people and earning over 4.5 billion USD from exports last year.

Cambodia is seen as an attractive market to many investors in the sector thanks to its abundant young workforce, low-cost labour, and tax incentives.-VNA
