Cambodia and Thailand have promoted trade activities in a bid to increase bilateral trade turnover to over five billion USD in 2015, said Cambodian Commerce Secretary of State Chhuon Dara.
According to the secretary, trade between Cambodia and Thailand topped five billion USD in 2014, an 11 percent increase from last year's 4.5 billion U.S. dollars.
Cambodia’s exports to Thailand have increased constantly and reached 576 million USD in 2014, but the figure is modest compared to the total trade value, he added.
The secretary called on Thailand to invest more in Cambodia and create favourable conditions for Cambodia’s agricultural products to enter its market.
He noted Cambodia is implementing deep and extensive reforms in trade while supporting domestic businesses in manufacturing to increase exports value and competiveness in preparation for the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community at the end of 2015.
Thai Ambassador to Cambodia Nuttaavudh Photisaro said Thailand is ready to support its businesses to invest to Cambodia, which he said is an important trade partner of Thailand.
In the first quarter of 2015, total bilateral trade turnover of the two countries was estimated to reach over 1.6 billion USD, of which Thailand’s exports to Cambodia accounted for 1.3 billion USD.-VNA
