Cambodian Government to manage Angkor Wat Temple’s ticket sale

Phnom Penh (VNA) - The Cambodian Government will manage tickets to be sold for visitors to the Angkor Wat Temple from 2016, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on November 6.

Council of Ministers spokesman Phay Siphan said that a joint committee will be set up to supervise the ticket purchase to Angkor Wat Temple as part of the effort to make the collection and use of national heritage-sourced incomes transparent.

The private Sokha Hotel Company has been selling tickets to visitors to the Temple since 1999, with its contributions to the State budget made under an agreement with authorised agencies.

In 2014, it raked in 59.32 million USD from ticket sale, 6 million USD more than 2013 figure. From January to October, 2015, the company earned 47 million USD from nearly 1.7 million foreign visitors.

The Angkor Wat Temple, built from the 7 th -12 th centuries in Siem Reap province. It has been a popular destination of foreigners when visiting Cambodia.

In 2014, over 2 million foreigners explored the ancient Temple complex, which is listed as a world heritage site.-VNA
