Hanoi(VNA) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on November 19 that Cambodiawill never allow any foreign military bases in the country.

Addressing a cabinetmeeting broadcast live on Facebook, the PM affirmed that the Constitution ofCambodia bans the presence of foreign troops or military bases in itsterritory, whether naval forces, infantry forces, or air forces.

Cambodia does notneed foreigners to fight in its territory like in the past, nor does Cambodiaallow itself to become a place for ideology or weapon experiment, he said.

The Cambodianleader’s announcement was made following a report on November 15 by the AsiaTimes, citing unidentified diplomatic sources and analysts who have said thatBeijing had been lobbying Cambodia for the naval base in the Southeast Asia’ssouthwest region, which could host frigates, destroyers, and other vessels ofthe People's Liberation Army Navy. –VNA
