Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia exported 7.98 million tonnes of agricultural products in 2021, up 63.8 percent year-on-year, raking in nearly 5 billion USD, according to Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Veng Sakhon.
The country's agricultural export value in 2021 increased by nearly 11 percent compared to the previous year, the minister cited preliminary statistics of the Cambodian Plant Quarantine Authority.
Cambodia’s farm produce were shipped to 68 countries and countries and territories, with main products of rice, rubber, cassava, mangoes, bananas, pepper, corn, among others.
Meanwhile, vice president of the Cambodian Safe Fish, Meat and Vegetables Association Sok Yorn told the Phnom Penh Post last week that the cultivation of fruit and vegetables has enjoyed continuous growth in the past two or three years.
Upswing in agricultural activity would be a net positive for the sector, not only creating jobs for the people, but also providing a wealth of socio-economic benefits, such as a reduction in imports and a ramp-up in the production of quality fruits and vegetables, he said.
However, Sok Yorn asserted that most Cambodian agricultural products do not comply with quality and phytosanitary standards for export.
He asked growers and agricultural authorities to pay more attention to addressing this problem./.
