The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho is making concerted efforts toincrease its competitiveness capacity to appear in the list of ten mostcompetitive localities in the country, according to Vice Chairman of themunicipal People’s Committee Le Van Tam.
At aconference on provincial competitiveness index (PCI) analysis andorientation for 2015 on June 3, the Vice Chairman said the city will tryto improve its 2014 result, which saw Can Tho ranked 15th among 63provinces and cities with 59.94 points.
To achieve thetarget, the city needs to effectively implement economic restructuringand renew its growth model while improving the investment climate, saidHead of the legal department of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce andIndustry (VCCI) Dau Anh Tuan.
He recommended that the city switchto high-tech industry and agriculture by offering training forunskilled labourers and guiding farmers to apply science-technology intocultivation and animal breeding.
In a bid to lure foreigninvestors, the city should provide adequate infrastructure, simplifyadministrative procedures and enhance the performance of publicservants. At the same time, more support should be offered toenterprises to address difficulties and reduce operation costs. The moveaims to ensure an equal competitive environment.-VNA
