The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho is to create favourable conditions for small-sized enterprises to promote their Vietnamese trademarked goods on the French market, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Truong Quang Hoai Nam said.

The committee organised a working session with representatives from the Business Association of Vietnamese High-Quality Goods on October 2 to seek ways to help small enterprises involved in producing consumer goods, handicrafts, food and tourism services to intensify trade ties with French partners.

Association President Vu Kim Hanh said expanding operations to foreign countries, including France, was a big step for small enterprises that are extremely vulnerable when entering new markets.

Antoine Tran Anh Tuan, Head of France’s Sustainable and Innovative International Tourism Programme (Sintour), pointed out a weakness of the Vietnamese tourism sector in understanding customer tastes. “Vietnamese businesses still sell what they have, not what customers want,” stated Tuan.

He pledged to devise training courses to help increase sales and customer service skills for Vietnamese business, and organise programmes to develop community-based tourism and introduce local cuisine to French tourists.-VNA
