Canada will bolster cooperation with ASEAN in such fields as business connectivity, people-to-people exchange and disaster mitigation, according to a press release issued by the ASEAN Secretariat on August 7.
Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Jean made the statement in a recent meeting in Jakarta with ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh.
The Canadian Deputy Minister also discussed with Secretary-General Minh on measures to effectively carry out the recently adopted Plan of Action to Implement the ASEAN-Canada Enhanced Partnership (2016 – 2020).
Minh wished Canada to work with ASEAN to prioritise key areas for cooperation in implementing the Plan of Action.
He also encouraged Canada to align its support to ASEAN with those of ASEAN's Post-2015 Vision and urged the ASEAN-Canada Business Council to take more active role in promoting bilateral trade and investment.
The two sides also exchanged views on issues that affect regional peace and stability, including the East Sea issue.-VNA
