The Hanoi Municipal Emulation and Reward Council has selected 10nominees to submit to the Hanoi People’s Committee for examining andrecognising the title of the 2010 capital city’s outstanding citizen,said a meeting of the Hanoi Party’s Committee on August 23.
Thecouncil nominated Prof. Vu Khieu, 94. He is among authors of and madecontributions to studies on Hanoi and was chairman of the councilon the project on Thang Long’s millenium book. He was awarded the titleof Labour Hero in 2000.
Historical Prof., People’s Teacher PhanHuy Le, 67, is one of the leading experts on Vietnam’s history. Hedevoted his life to the study of Hanoi history. His efforts as chiefauthor of the compiled documents of the Thang Long Royal Citadel, PhuDong Festival and the Doctorate stelae at the Temple of Literaturein Hanoi were highly applauded by the UNESCO.
The professoralso chaired a number of workshops on Thang Long-Hanoi and took part inpersonnel training courses on measures to preserve the capital’scultural and archaeological relics.
Born in 1926, researcherNguyen Vinh Phuc has studied and written about Hanoi for more than50 years. Readers in Hanoi and the whole country call him the“Hanoiologist”.
Hoang Vinh Giang, 64, has made significantcontributions to training international-standard athletes, coaches andreferees of Hanoi . He was conferred with the title of Labour Hero in2005.
Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, who works for Hanoi Moi newspaper,initiated and organised the implementation of the ceramic road projectalong the Red River four years ago. Her unique idea has attracted theinvolvement of dozens of local and foreign painters, hundreds ofartisans from ceramic craft villages as well as 500 Vietnamese andinternational children. The project is nearly completed and a specialgift for the millennium year of the capital city. The 39-year-oldpainter was presented with the Bui Xuan Phai Prize in 2009.
TheCouncil also selected other outstanding nominees. According to PhungMinh Son, deputy head of the Municipal Emulation and Reward Board, the10 outstanding citizens of Hanoi 2010 will be honoured at the Hanoimunicipal patriotism emulation congress for 2010-2015, scheduled forAugust 28 at the Hanoi Friendship Palace./.
