The central province of Quang Binh , home to the so-called kingdom of grottoes - Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park , is hosting the second Cave Festival.
At the opening ceremony held on May 25 at Thien Duong (Paradise) cave, visitors had the chance to talk with British cave explorer Howard Limbert and well-known local guide Ho Khanh, to learn about exploring the limestone caves in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park .
Visitors also enjoyed traditional songs performed by local ethnic minority groups.
According to Chairman of the QuangBinh provincial People Committee, Nguyen Huu Hoai, the festival will be held twice a year to introduce a new model for tourism that combines cave exploration and scientific research on the ecosystems in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
The park marks the 10th anniversary of its recognition as a World Natural Heritage Site on geological and geomorphological criteria this month.
Earlier, Limbert told local media that his team had found traces of a collapsed cave in the park which beats the record of the world’s largest cave of Son Doong .
The British cave explore also said that his team has found 10 vertical caves in Xuong valley along Chay river within the national park.-VNA
