Da Nang (VNS/VNA) - Da Nang will connect with more countries around the world as new flights are launched to more destinations from the central city.
Direct and charters flights will operate connecting Da Nang with the Republic of Korea, Jakarta (Indonesia), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Haneda (Japan), Taiwan, India, Australia and Russia from next year.
Deputy Director of the city’s Tourism Department Truong Thi Hong Hanh said Russian Anex Tourism Group (ATG) proposed the first chartered flights from four cities – Moscow, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk – to Da Nang between March and September 2020.
According to ATG, the flight would operate every 10 days, bringing from 3,000 to 3,500 tourists monthly from Russia to Da Nang on board a Boeing B-767.
Hanh said the city has also launched for new air routes from Da Nang to India and Australia as well as the Republic of Korea and Taiwan.
Sriwijaya Air are also planning flights from Jakarta, Indonesia, to Da Nang in the future, according to the department.
She said budget airline, VietJet Air plans to launch the Da Nang-Haneda, Japan and Da Nang-Taiwan soon.
In a meeting in August, representative of the Cambodia Angkor Air said it would launch direct flights from Da Nang to Phnom Penh with four flights per week starting next month.
Da Nang also sees arrivals from Thailand as three airlines – Thai AirAsia, VietJet Air and Bangkok Airways – operate 56 flights per week.
Chartered flights between Da Nang and Nagoya, Japan also started in June as a preparation for launching a regular direct route following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between authorities of Da Nang International Airport and Chubu Centrair International Airport of Japan in February.
According to the city’s tourism department, Da Nang had 48 international air routes with 462 flights per week, while 11 domestic routes operated with 665 flights in a week.
Da Nang welcomed five million tourists, of which nearly two million were foreigners, in the first seven month of this year.
Korean visitors were the largest with more than one million tourists, 54 percent of total foreign tourists visiting Da Nang. Chinese second with 500,000 tourists – 26 percent of total international tourists in the city, followed by Thailand and Japan./.
