Central Highlands looks to vegetables, fruit trees amid water shortage

Dak Lak (VNA) – Farmers in provinces in the Central Highlands region have shifted to growing vegetables and annual fruit trees on areas that have been facing water shortages in 2016, according to the Central Highlands’ Steering Committee.

As many as 7,200 hectares of rice cultivation have been replaced with other crop so far this year.

Of which, Dak Lak province alone accounts for 2,570 hectares, which are now growing corn, French beans and watermelon instead of rice.

According to the committee, the change not only reduced the effects of the damage caused by drought, but also boosted incomes for ethnic minorities. -VNA
