Central localities targeting more Muslim tourists

Muslim visitors are now seen as an important source of international tourists to Vietnam’s central coastal localities amid a sluggish recovery in traditional markets.

The total number of Muslims around the world now amounts to 1.8 billion, including 225 million in ASEAN countries.

The resumption or opening of direct flights between Da Nang and Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Qatar has created favourable conditions for central localities to cater to Muslim tourists.

Though Halal tourism has great potential, more effort is needed to tap this niche market, which encompasses Muslim-friendly food and drinks and visits to mosques and prayer rooms.

Very few restaurants in Da Nang are able to meet stringent Halal standards.

At a workshop held in Da Nang to develop a supply chain of tourism services for Muslim visitors in central Vietnam, experts said it is necessary to make meticulous preparations and develop suitable infrastructure and services.

According to the Global Muslim Travel Index, there were 160 million international Muslim travellers in 2019 and the figure is expected to grow 80% in 2023.

Experts said Da Nang and other central localities should enhance tourism promotion activities and introduce special services for Muslim visitors./.
