Senior Chilean leaders and officials have committed to further facilitating ties with the Vietnamese legislature via visits and international inter-parliamentary forums.
Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, Senate President Isabel Allende, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Aldo Cornejo, Minister and Director of the National Service for Women Claudia Pascual made their pledge while meeting with National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan who is on a working visit to Chile from July 3-5. Ngan’s visit was taken within the framework of the project “Enhancing women’s leadership capacity for international integration” conducted by the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry and the United Nations Development Programme. Both sides also discussed the facilitation of visits by Vietnamese and Chilean leaders, ways to implement cooperation in promising fields, fully tap political consultation mechanism and bilateral free trade agreement, and work closely together on the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. Vietnamese leaders value the Vietnam – Chile comprehensive partnership underpinned by their long-standing friendship, Ngan said. The Vice Chairwoman praised Chile ’s experience in lawmaking and enforcement in gender equity, especially in terms of political involvement, income, social welfare and promotion of women’s role in the society. Expressing concern over the latest developments in the East Sea, Chilean leaders expressed their support to the peaceful settlement of the dispute in line with international laws, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and agreements signed by parties concerned. Vice Chairwoman Ngan also attended the inauguration of President Ho Chi Minh Statue in a park named after him in Cerrro Navia district.-VNA
