China completes railway connecting with ASEAN

China has completed construction of a railway which links China’s Yunnan province to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported on August 14
China has completed construction of a railway which links China’s Yunnanprovince to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)countries, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported on August 14

The Yuxi-Mengzi Railway has a total length of 141 km with adesigned maximum speed of 120 km per hour. It is a part of the Easternline of the planned Pan-Asia railway network. The railway plan alsoincludes the Western and central lines.

TheYuxi-Mengzi Railway has a total investment of 4.5 billion RMB (709.78million US dollars). It is funded by the Railway Ministry and the Yunnangovernment .

The railway is expected to open at theend of the year, and will boost the transport capability between Chinaand ASEAN countries.

The Pan-Asia railway network isdesigned to start in Kunming, the Yunnan province’s capital. It passesthrough the cities of Yuxi, Mengzi and Hekou in Yunnan to connect withVietnam, Laos, Thailand and Singapore.-VNA
