Hanoi (VNA) - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged the Governments of Bangladesh and Myanmar resolve the Rohingya crisis through bilateral negotiations instead of an international initiative.

The international community should not complicate the situation, Wang said in a press briefing on November 18 at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, adding that actions in the United Nations Security Council must help Bangladesh-Myanmar bilateral cooperation to resolve the problem peacefully.

China supports resolving the crisis peacefully and bilaterally with mutual consultation between Bangladesh and Myanmar, he said and described the situation complex, which needs a comprehensive situation.

Economic development of Rakhine State is needed. China is ready to help, Wang said.

Violence flared up in Rakhine state since gunmen attacked 24 police posts and broke into a military outpost in Rakhine on August 25.

To date, at least 110 people have been killed. Over 600,000 Rohingya people, mainly women and children, have sought ways to flee into Bangladesh.-VNA
