Chinese contractors GEDI and AE & Amp;E will jointly design and provide a sulfur treatment system for the Vung Ang No.1 thermo-electric power plant in the central province of Ha Tinh.

Under a contract signed on May 10 in Hanoi with the Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (Lilama), main contractor for the plant, GEDI and AE&E will also be responsible for installing and testing the system before handing it over to Lilama.

With the 32-million-USD contract, the power plant will become the first in the country to be armed with the sulfur treatment system using sea water, said Lilama Corp. General Director Pham Hung.

GEDI and AE&E are said to have rich experiences in designing and providing equipment for large electricity power plants in the world.

The 1.2-billion-USD power plant is the country’s largest thermo-electric power plant with a designed full capacity of 1,200 MW.

It, one of the 16 national key projects approved by the government, is part of the country’s power development plan slated for the 2006 – 2015 period. The plant’s first turbine group is expected to start generating power in July 2012./.
