China’s joint contractors will provide electro-mechanical equipment and technical services to the Huoi Quang hydroelectric power plant project in the northern province of Son La.
A contract to this effect was signed in Hanoi on March 30 by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and joint contractors Tianjin Alstom Hydro and Hydrochina Zhongnan Engineering Corporation.
The 65.2 million USD contract is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD). EVN is the main investor of the Huoi Quang hydroelectric power plant - the country’s third-largest underground construction work - in Chieng Lao commune, Muong La district.
The 11.7 trillion VND (565.1 million USD) plant has a design capacity of 520 MW with two turbines and expects to generate roughly 1.9 billion kWh annually.
The first turbine of the plant is expected to generate electricity on December 31, 2014 while the second turbine will begin operation on April 30, 2015.
This is the fourth-largest hydroelectric power plant in the northern region after Son La, Hoa Binh and Lai Chau plants./.
