Chinese President attracts importance to 'Boao proposals'

Hanoi (VNA) - The Boao Forum forAsia, with a focus on Asia and a global perspective, has produced many valuable"Boao proposals" since its inception, Chinese President Xi Jinpingsaid at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) on April 10.

Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted thePresident as saying in his keynote speech that the "Boao proposals"have helped build consensus in Asia, encourage cooperation, promote economic globalisationand advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

"The most important one is that for anycountry or nation to achieve rejuvenation, they must follow the logic ofhistory and the trend of the times in their pursuit of progress anddevelopment," Xi was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

The annual BFA is held in Boao city of China’s Hainan province. It wasestablished by 25 Asian countries, including China, Japan, the Republic ofKorea, India, Vietnam, Singapore and Australia, in 2001 to create a high-levelvenue for dialogues between leaders from governments, enterprises, experts andacademia to discuss economic, social and environmental issues, therebypromoting economic cooperation and supporting the sustainable development ofAsia’s economy.

 This year’s BFA is themed “AnOpen and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity”. The event, whichis running from April 8 to 11, has gathered 2,000participants, including business leaders and heads of state.

On April 9, former United Nations Secretary-GeneralBan Ki-moon was elected chairman of the BFA, replacing former Japanese PrimeMinister Yasuo Fukuda.-VNA

Japan hands over coastal surveillance radar to the Philippines

The equipment was provided under Japan’s Official Security Assistance (OSA) framework.
