Commemoration of Cuba’s hero Jose Marti

A wreath laying ceremony was held in Hanoi on May 19 in commemoration of the 115th anniversary of the death of Cuban national hero Jose Marti.
A wreath laying ceremony was held in Hanoi on May 19 in commemoration of the 115th anniversary of the death of Cuban national hero Jose Marti.

The event was held at the hero’s statue in the Tao Dan park in Hoan Kiem district by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, the Cuban embassy in Vietnam and the Hanoi chapter of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association. It was attended by Cuban Ambassador Fredesman Turro Gonzalez.

Deputy Ambassador Paulo Fernandez Alberto highlighted Jose Marti’s contributions to Cuba’s struggle for national liberation.

He also showed respect for President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of his 120th birthday.

Born in 1853 in Havana, Jose Marti is known as a writer, a poet, a journalist and a diplomat. He is the founder of the Cuba Revolutionary Party and played a key role in the planning of the Cuban war for independence against Spain.

He died in military on May 19, 1895./.
