Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Nantawan Sakuntanak, has disclosed that Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom will meet with the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC), the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and the Thai National Shipper’s Council (TNSC) to discuss plans to boost the country’s export this year.
Nantawan explained that the export situation during the past four months still saw a negative growth of 3.86 percent given flood-affected factories have not yet regained their full production and export capacities.
Additionally, the global economic slowdown, especially in the main markets, namely the European Union and the USA , has also contributed to the poor growth.
Therefore, the DITP Director-General said that both approaches, proactive and reactive, must be devised in order to boost Thailand’s export in 2012 to meet the 15% target, worth 263 billion dollars.-VNA
The Thai Ministry of Commerce will hold a meeting with the private sector, on June 8, to discuss a solution to the current export crisis given the sector is still facing a negative growth four months after the flood as well as impact from the global economy.
