An overview of seminar themed “Vietnam and the United Nations Security Council: Toward Election and Membership for 2020-2021” (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UnitedNations Security Council (UNSC) reflects the country’s determination to pursue aforeign policy of diversification and multilateralisation as well as its activeand responsible participation in international forums and organisations.
Deputy Foreign Minister Dang DinhQuy made the statement at an international conference themed “Vietnam and theUnited Nations Security Council: Toward Election and Membership for 2020-2021”in Hanoi on March 30.
Running for this post for thesecond time after the successful 2008-2009 tenure also shows the country’s resolveto perform its foreign policy of peace for national independence, cooperationand development, he added.
Director of the DiplomaticAcademy of Vietnam (DAV) Nguyen Vu Tung stressed that opportunities andchallenges facing Vietnam during the process will help the country build soundpolicies and have good preparations when participating in the UNSC.
At the event, participantsexchanged views on opportunities and challenges facing a non-permanent UNSCmember, and shared experience in bringing into full play opportunities anddealing with challenges.
The seminar was jointly organisedby the DAV and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation, drawing theparticipation of Swedish Ambassador to the UNSC for 2017-2018 Olof Skoog,representatives of embassies and international organisations in Hanoi, andVietnamese ministries and sectors.-VNA
