Hanoi (VNA) – President of Vietnam Vo Van Thuong on December 19 sentcongratulations to Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on his re-election as Presidentof Egypt.

Egypt was the firstcountry in Africa and the Middle East to establish diplomatic relations withVietnam, on September 1, 1963.

Then VietnamesePresident Ho Chi Minh set the foundation for the two countries’ friendship ashe visited Egypt for three times in 1911 and 1946, and established the TradeOffice of Vietnam there in 1958.

Egypt is one of theimportant trading partners and potential markets of Vietnam in North Africa, with bilateral trade topping 600 million USD in 2022 and hoped to reach 1billion USD in the near future./.

According to historical records, the area once served as an operational base for units of Regiments 609, 66, 24 and 320, as well as staff and logistics agencies of the Central Highlands front (B3) during the 1966–1969 period.
