The Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations hosted a conference in Hanoi on Jan. 21 to report the results of the 11 th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CVP) to diplomatic agencies and international organisations.
Hoang Binh Quan, Head of the commission, said the Congress was a success. It saw a larger number of delegates who were of different backgrounds, younger age and boasted a higher level of ability compared with those at previous events.
Quan said for the first time, the Congress was attended by representatives from foreign news and press agencies. Documents submitted to the Congress had been discussed and given recommendations by the public at home as well as overseas Vietnamese, he added.
The official went on to say that the 11th National Party Congress was of historical significance and extreme importance, as it reviewed 25 years of renewal and the 2001-2010 socio-economic development strategy, and adopted the 2011-2020 socio-economic development strategy.
Delegates contributed more than 1,400 opinions and 54 reports to the Congress and delivered 27 presentations at plenary sessions. The Congress ratified the documents with a high degree of unanimity.
Regarding foreign policy, Quan said the CPV will continue to synchronously and comprehensively implement external affairs and dynamically and actively integrate into the international community. Vietnam will also join hands with other ASEAN nations to build Southeast Asia into a region of peace, cooperation and development.
At the Congress, the CPV endorsed the “Platform for national construction during the transitional period towards socialism” (supplemented and developed in 2011), and the 2011-2020 Socio-economic development strategy , reviewed the performance of the 10 th National Party Congress Resolution and discussed major guidelines and polices in all spheres to foster the country’s rapid and sustainable development. The elections of Party leadership positions were a great success of the Congress.
Quan took this occasion to thank international friends for their care and sentiments towards the Congress, saying that 178 letters and messages of congratulations were received from political parties, international organisations and foreign friends./.
