Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia said construction on an expressway connecting Phnom Penh and the port city of Sihanoukville will start in November.
The ministry’s speaker Vasim Sorya said the project will be carried out by China’s Road and Bridge Corporation under a deal signed between the Cambodian ministry and the corporation in January this year.
The 190km long expressway will have four lanes, with construction time estimated at four years.
It will also connect with the trans-Asia route.
Sihanoukville is an important gateway to the Gulf of Thailand of Cambodia. The port city has attracted many major investment projects of China.
The existing road between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville has been seriously degraded due to heavy traffic and flooding in rainy season.-VNA
