Hanoi (VNA) – A coronation ritual for Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn, formally known as Rama X of the Chakri dynasty, will be held from May 4 to 6, the Bureau of the Royal Household has announced.

The king will be officially crowned on May 4 and a celebration procession will be held on May 5.

The king will meet the public and foreign diplomats on May 6.

Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn became King Rama X in December 2016, after his farther King Bhumibol Adulyadej – Rama IX – passed away in October the same year, at 88.

The coronation has been delayed until a year-long period of mourning for King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

King Rama X is Thailand’s head of state, with power to sign legal documents for their promulgation and witness officials swearing in. He is also the nominal leader of the army, court and government.-VNA
