The National Library of Vietnam and the Asian chapter of the Special Libraries Association opened a training course on preserving traditional and digital materials in Hanoi on March 24.
The two-day programme is offered to more than 200 library staff and researchers from Vietnam, India, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Singapore.
During the course, Dr. Reinhard Feldmann, Director of the Department of Historical Collection of Munster University in Germany, will present digitisation methods along with those of preserving and recovering traditional materials.
Domestic and foreign experts will also share their experience in the field.
After Vietnam, the training course will be held at the National Library of Laos and the Aquinas University of Legazpi in the Philippines on March 27-28 and April 10-12, respectively.
It is part of an initiative on enhancing the material preservation capacity of Southeast Asian libraries, which was proposed at the 79 th World Library and Information Congress in Singapore last year.-VNA
