TheGSO on April 24 added that with the latest small increase, the CPIshowed an accumulative rise of 2.41 percent compared to last December,and 6.61 percent higher than that of April last year.
Eight out of 11 categories of the goods basket experienced rises from0.05 percent to 3.62 percent with medicine and health service seeing thehighest increase and education registering the lowest one.
According to Nguyen Duc Thang, Head of GSO’s Price Statistics,increases in medicine and health service and transport, at 3.62 percentand 1.2 percent, respectively, were attributable to the country’s CPIsmall rise in April, despite the decline of the figures in Hanoi andHo Chi Minh City.
In April, prices of foods and cateringservices, which accounted for the almost 40 percent in the goodsbasket, fell by 0.91 percent as supply was higher than demand.
Thangsaid despite a long holiday in early May, consumers tend to cut downtheir expenses due to economic difficulties. As a result, CPI in Mayis expected to see a slight increase as in April.-VNA
