Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) in October rose 0.36 percent against last month, much slower than the 1.1 percent increase of the same period last year.
However, the figure represented a year-on-year increase of 21.59 percent and a 17.05 percent rise over December 2010, the General Statistics Office (GSO) announced on Oct. 24.
Eight out of 11 commodity groups recorded increases ranging from 0.06 to 3.2 percent, of which the group of food services saw the lowest price hike, which dropped to 0.06 percent from 0.28 percent in September.
Three commodities, including housing and construction materials, transport, and post and telecommunications saw price falls while seven others posted increases below 1 percent.
Only educational services experienced a price hike of 3.2 percent.
The low CPI increases of 0.13 percent and 0.18 percent respectively in two economic hubs, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, helped curb the country’s CPI growth in October./.
