CPI slightly increases in May

The country’s consumer price index (CPI) in May rose by only 0.27 percent over the previous month partly due to a decrease in the price of food, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Nine out of 11 groups of goods saw increases in prices ranging from 0.07-1.46 percent. Housing and construction materials posted the highest price hike of 1.46 percent while prices of educational services experienced the lowest rise of 0.07 percent.

Prices of food and restaurant services, and post and telecommunication services dropped by 0.12 percent and 0.05 percent, respectively.

Also in the month, the gold price slightly increased by 1.91 percent against April while the price of US dollar saw a month-on-month fall of 0.63 percent.

The GSO forecasts that June will see a CPI rice at the same level as May./.
