Ho Chi Minh City (VNS/VNA) - Cuba and Ho Chi Minh City are cooperating to improve thequality of community healthcare.

The city’s Department of Health last week had a virtualmeeting with the primary health care board of the Cuban Ministry ofHealth.

Attending the meeting, Ailuj Casanova Baroto, head of the primaryhealth care board, said Cuba’s public healthcare system is recognised as one ofthe most effective systems in the world.

The system is operated by the Ministry of Health to guarantee thatall Cuban residents can easily access it.

It focuses on disease prevention and enhancing education of publichealthcare.

Community health centres are an important part of the country’spublic healthcare system, which have been established in urban and rural areasnationwide.

It estimated that there is one community health centre for 1,000households.

The community health centres provide healthcare services, such asvaccinations, regular health checks, and care for pregnant women and newborns.

Medical staff at community health centres are trained todiagnose and treat basic illnesses and provide disease preventive measures.

Groups of specialised doctors of hospitals periodically cooperatewith community health centres to give medical examinations and treatment tolocal residents.

Cuba’s public healthcare system also pays attention to studyingand developing new healthcare technologies and methods, ensuring the systemalways provides the best approaches in healthcare to people.

Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the city’s Department of Health, saidthe Cuban Ministry of Health is willing to support the city in implementing aproject of community healthcare development.

Cuba will send two specialised doctors to the city to carryout surveys and come to an agreement with the city’s Department of Health oncontent that needs to be developed in the coming time.

The ministry expects to welcome the city’s healthcareprofessionals to visit Cuba to learn about its public healthcare models./.

Vietnam moves toward universal free annual health checkups from 2026

Every Vietnamese citizen from 2026 onward will be entitled to at least one free annual medical checkup or screening. Each individual will also have a digital health record integrated into the national digital identification platform VNeID, enabling authorities and healthcare providers to manage health data in a synchronised and continuous manner.
