Cuban diplomat honoured for friendship promotion efforts

The insignia, the noblest of its kind, granted by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), was presented to the Cuban diplomat at a ceremony in HCM City on September 6.

Addressing the ceremony, Le Hung Quoc, President of the VUFO’s Ho Chi Minh City chapter praised Gabriel Perez Tarrau’s efforts to further consolidate the friendship between the people of Vietnam and HCM City in particular, and those from Cuba .

During his tenure, the diplomat, the Cuban Consulate as well as the Cuban community in the city have worked closely with local authorities to organise various cultural, social and charitable events, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between the citizens of both nations, he said.

Describing the insignia as a great honour, the Cuban Consul General said despite distance between the two countries, Vietnam and Cuba have enjoyed strong solidarity during the causes of their national construction and development.

The close ties have been shown through visits by high-ranking leaders of both sides and those by a large number of Cuban experts and officials to HCM City and the southern region, he added.-VNA
