Da Lat develops plan to export daisies to Japan

The Da Lat Flower Forest Biotechnology Joint Stock Company in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong said that it is going ahead with a plan to export 40,000 daisies each week to Japan this year.
The Da Lat Flower Forest Biotechnology Joint Stock Company in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong said that it is going ahead with a plan to export 40,000 daisies each week to Japan this year.

According to Company Director Nguyen Dinh Son, the export plan is part of a World Bank-funded project under which the company cooperates with local farmers to zone off large materials areas for export.

So far, 10 hectares have been marked out for growing daisy, said Son.

Japan has a high demand for flowers and the East Asian country spends up to 460 million USD in importing flowers each year. Meanwhile, Vietnam ’s flower exports to Japan , mostly from Lam Dong, reach only 6.2 million USD.

At present, the province is holding nearly 70 percent of the country’s total flower export earnings. It is expected that the province will rake in some 16 million USD from flower export this year, up 3 million USD over last year.

In addition to Japan , Vietnam exports many kinds of flowers to the Republic of Korea , Belgium , Thailand , Australia , the Philippines , Singapore , Taiwan , Cambodia and France .

Besides fresh flowers, the country exports dehydrated flowers to foreign markets./.
