The list of the world’s destinations for flowers was presented following a study commissioned by Booking.com and conducted among a sample of adults who have traveled for business or leisure in the past 12 months and plan to travel again in the next 12 months (if/once travel restrictions are lifted). In total, 20,934 respondents across 28 countries and territories were polled and respondents completed an online survey in July 2020. The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong People’s Committee has requested local authorities be well prepared for the 9th Da Lat Flower Festival 2022, held at the end of this year in the tourism hub city of Da Lat. The provincial authority in its recently issued document asked local authorities including district departments and agencies to boost urban development, advertisements, dissemination, and plans for flower planting in preparation for the festival. It has directed to review and speed up the progress of investment projects especially those in infrastructure upgrading and urban decorations, to be completed before October 30, 2022, to serve the organising of the big event. Based on assigned functions and tasks, the committee has also ordered local authorities to complete the clearance of works on road safety corridors, strictly control construction in the area. They were also tasked with organising deployments to handle issues related to street encroachment and temporary markets, while performing environmental protection work in accordance with regulations. The biennial national and international cultural-tourism event will continue to affirm the value and brand of Da Lat as a city of Flower Festivals and the floriculture of a "gentle, elegant, and hospitability". It also aims to honour the value of flowers, promote tourism and trade, and call for greater domestic and international cooperation and investment throughout the locality. Along with hosting traditional art flower spaces, organisers will arrange a wide range of activities during the festival, including a helicopter tour of Da Lat city, a youth music programme, a hot air balloon festival, and street carnivals with the participation of international dancers. The province has been recognised as very successful in organising flower festivals as a way to boost the value of its culture and tourism activities. The previous 8th Da Lat Flower Festival 2019 opened on December 20 and was also a great success since it had helped attract thousands of visitors to the Central Highlands province. With the theme “Da Lat and Flowers”, the festival ran from December 20-24 in Da Lat City and Bao Loc City. In public areas around Xuan Huong Lake, the main streets and flower villages were decorated with locally-grown, colourful flowers. Dat Lat city in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong was placed third among the world’s top destinations for flowers by travellers of US-based online booking travel agency Booking.com. The site also named Da Lat city, along with Hoi An and Da Nang among 10 most romantic tourist hotspots for Valentine's Day as endorsed by Vietnamese travelers, according to online travel agency Booking.com. Da Lat resort city topped the most romantic destinations list for Valentine's Day. Sa Pa, a popular tourist town in northern Lao Cai Province famed for rice terraces and cloudy landscapes, also secured a spot. A visit to Da Lat will be incomplete without a stop at Tuyen Lam Lake, one of the most beautiful in Vietnam. The lake was recognised as a national tourism site in 2017. Spanning nearly 3,000 hectares, the site is home to the biggest freshwater lake in Da Lat, Truc Lam Zen Monastery and Phung Hoang mountain. No one knows for sure when and why the lake was named Tuyen Lam, but many think Tuyen stands for stream and Lam for forest. Tuyen Lam is this a place where water and trees meet. The magnificent scenery around the lake, comprising mountains and vast pine forests, is much admired. Tuyen Lam is an artificial lake which was built in 1930s and then discovered by a French farmer named Farraut. At that time, Tuyen Lam Lake was surrounded by the grandiose Elephant Mountain and in connection with the poetic Purple Stream. Tuyen Lam Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Da Lat spanning an area of 350 hectares. The mother of nature is affectionate towards Tuyen Lam Lake with a majestic wild beauty that not all lakes have. Da Lat is an ideal place for many kinds of fruits to grow, including strawberries, thanks to its temperate climate. Da Lat’s farmers have shifted from their traditional method of growing strawberries within rows in the ground to a new model of hydroponics and hanging strawberry gardens. With this method, strawberries are grown in baskets hung at 1 meter high above the ground, watered and fertilized by a piped drip irrigation system. This has significantly improved Da Lat strawberries’ quality as it prevents rats, pests, and the use of pesticides in the growing process.
