The central coastal city of Da Nang has implemented a number of practical measures to boost the local job market, especially for rural and disadvantaged labourers.
Some 18,400 workers have found jobs since the beginning of 2015, a 10.76 percent rise compared to the same period last year. The number accounts for 58.41 percent of the annual plan, according to the municipal Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.
Nearly 4,000 job-seekers were employed as a result of the 13 job fairs held in the city. Three job fairs were organised per month with a view to increasing the chance of unemployed citizens finding a job.
Da Nang has provided tuition fee assistance for employees and job-seekers enrolled in the vocational training courses run by municipal enterprises. Every qualified trainee is assured a job at one of the businesses after course completion.
In addition, the Department also collaborated with the municipal Communist Youth Union to run “enterprise startup” courses geared at local youth and students who want to set up their own businesses. Course participants will be trained on idea development, business plan formulation, market analyses and financial management.
Providing local residents access to preferential loans to expand their business is another priority for the city.
Da Nang is currently in the process of building a database on the supply and demand of workers as part of its efforts to analyse the labour market. This will help the city adjust its planning accordingly in order to tackle job issues in years to come.
As many as 784,000 workers nationwide secured jobs during the first six months of 2015, up by 3.4 percent compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) confirmed.
