Numerous Buddhists and tourists nationwide have flocked to the 2014 Quan The Am (Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva) Festival held in Ngu Hanh Son district, central Da Nang city on March 19.

The religious festival is one of Vietnam’s biggest annual ritual events. It involves a varied range of cultural activities, including a prayer ceremony for a year of peace, prosperity and happiness for the nation, and a folk music performance of bai choi (a card game in which players also sing).

A painting and photo exhibition featuring Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains) landscapes, a zen-tea exhibition, candle-lit flower releasing, boat-races and calligraphy performances are all included in the festivities.

The event is popular among tourists and locals, who appreciate its success in upholding national cultural values.-VNA
