The central city of Da Nang has recorded a sharp increase in the number of international arrivals in the first quarter of 2014, up as much as 10-20 percent, according to travel agents Vitours, Vietravel and Saigontourist.
At present, Asian tourists, especially Chinese visitors, are flocking to the city in large delegations of up to 1,000 people. From Da Nang, they travel to nearby attractions in the central provinces of Quang Nam, Thua-Tien Hue and Quang Binh and the neighbouring town of Hoi An.
Tourism experts attribute the increase to Da Nang city’s selection by Smart Travel Asia – Asia’s most prestigious online tourism magazine – as one of Asia’s top ten destinations in 2013.
Agoda.com – a famous e-booking website in Asia – has suggested that Da Nang’s fast economic growth rate, leading to an increasing number of new hotels and trade centres, is a key feature attraction.
Da Nang is also considered one of emerging ten tourism destinations in Asia in 2014, alongside Mandalay (Myanmar), Kenting (Taiwan), Okinawa (Japan) and Lombok (Indonesia).-VNA
