Da Nang to open meetings as VN assumes ASEAN chair

Da Nang is scheduled to host three ASEAN ministerial meetings from Jan. 13-14, opening a series of activities in 2010 as Vietnam assumes ASEAN chair.

The meetings include the third ASEAN Political-Security Community Council (APCS) meeting, the ASEAN Coordination Council (ACC) meeting and the ASEAN ministerial meeting (AMM) retreat.

At the meetings, the bloc will discuss priorities regarding cooperative activities and measures ensuring peace and security in the region.

Regional foreign ministers will also focus on preparing work for the 15th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, as well as review the implementation of decisions adopted at the previous summit, progress in building an ASEAN community by 2015 and implementation of the ASEAN Charter.

Chosen as the opening place for the country’s important events, central Da Nang city has set up a steering committee headed by Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Van Huu Chien.

The committee will work together with the Foreign Ministry aiding in areas related to information, reception, security, healthcare, logistics for the success of the ASEAN ministerial meetings in Da Nang./.
