By October 18, at least 18 people were killed by storm Nari and flooding which hit the central provinces from Nghe An to Binh Dinh and the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.
According to a report from the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, the disaster left three people missing and 92 others injured.
The calamity destroyed more than 13,000 houses, inundated over 87,000 others, unroofed 587 classrooms and flooded 7,800 ha of rice and other crops.
Torrential rain caused by the recent storm resulted in serious flooding in these provinces, especially in Ha Tinh with 69 communes being flooded, including 29 others in Huong Son district.
On October 17, a delegation from Ha Tinh provincial Red Cross visited the families of flood victims and provided aid relief to people in the three most seriously flooded districts of Huong Son, Huong Khe and Vu Quang. They delivered 760 packages of instant noodles, water as well as money.
In Huong Son district alone, three people died and one is still missing.
Floods and landslides blocked roads preventing 62,000 students in Ha Tinh province from going to school.
The armed forces have been mobilised to help local people overcome the consequences of storm Nari, the 11th to hit Vietnam this year.
The capital city of Hanoi provided four billion VND to help people in the storm-hit city and provinces of Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Tri.
Earlier, it had donated seven billion VND to the victims in the region.-VNA
