Hanoi (VNA) – Permanent Deputy Prime MinisterTruong Hoa Binh on February 26 lauded Germany’s Hessen state as a most activefactor in Vietnam – Germany strategic partnership.

During a reception in Hanoifor Minister of Higher Education, Researchand the Arts of Germany’s Hessen State Angela Dorn, Binh said two-waytrade between Vietnam and Hessen state now nears 1 billion USD, or one-eighthof trade between Vietnam and Germany.

He lauded cooperation between Hessen and Vietnam through theVietnam – Germany University project which is dubbed as a “lighthouse” inbilateral ties. All curricula are lectured by professors from Germany’s partnerschools.

As the two countries are celebrating the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties this year, more visits will befacilitated while major celebrations will be held, including the VietnamCulture Days in Germany.

Binh suggested that Minister Dorn encourage local firms toinvest in Vietnam in the fields of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, mechanicalengineering, support industry, farm produce processing, and production ofnatural rubber, as well as become strategic shareholders in equitised andlisted firms.

Both sides should develop economic, trade and investmentties, as well as tap new opportunities arising from the European Union -Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, he said.

The host also asked the minister to offer all possiblesupport to Vietnamese firms to do effective business in the state, furtherenhance education and vocational training cooperation with Vietnam, and createfavourable conditions for Vietnamese community living and working in thecountry.

Dorn, for her part, said the most important bridgeconnecting the two countries is not only economic but cultural factors also,adding that Hessen highly values Vietnam’s long-standing culture.

She said three leading European universities in Germany arestrong in vaccine production, and ready to offer funding to Vietnamese scientiststo come there to jointly study vaccines against COVID-19 outbreak with themwithin 1-3 months./.
