Deputy PM visits Azerbaijan to boost ties

At a meeting with President Ilham Aliev on April 8, the Vietnamese Deputy PM stressed the importance of building and completing legal foundation for expansion of bilateral cooperation.

According to President Aliev, Vietnam and Azerbaijan have great potential of expanding relations, as the result, the two countries should increase bilateral trade activities and promote investment projects.

Deputy PM Hai told PM Artur Rasizade at their meeting on April 9 that the Vietnamese people always bear in their minds Azerbaijan ’s support to Vietnam ’s resistance wars and national construction, especially the training of officers in oil and gas sector.

He also asked the Azerbaijan PM to create favourable conditions for the Vietnam National Oil and Gas group (PetroVietnam) and Azerbaijan’s national oil company, Socar, to explore and exploit oil and gas in both countries and the third countries as well as support Vietnamese people living in that country.

In his opinion, the two countries should increase high-ranking delegation visits while PM Rasizade suggested an establishment of a Vietnam-Arzerbaijan inter-governmental economic cooperation committee.

On the same day, an agreement on visa exemption for diplomat and official passport holders and a protocol of cooperation between the two foreign ministries were signed under the witness of deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai and Azerbaijan ’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammedyarov.

At the Baku Oil and Gas Institute, deputy PM Hai granted Labor Orders and Friendship Orders to several Azerbaijan people for their contribution to Vietnam ’s oil and gas sector and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on science and training cooperation between PetroVietnam and Azerbaijan Oil and Gas Institute.

Earlier, addressing the Vietnam-Azerbaijan business forum, deputy PM Hai noted that bilateral economic-trade ties still fail to match potential and good relationship between the two countries.

The Vietnamese government and businesses hopes for further cooperation in oil exploration and refinement, steel production, chemicals and garment.

The Vietnamese deputy PM also witnessed the signing of an MoU on cooperation between PetroVietnam and Socar during his working visit to Azerbaijan./.
