Dien Bien: reburial service held for remains of fallen soldiers in Laos

Dien Bien (VNA) – A ceremony was held at Tong Khao cemetery in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien to rebury remains of 12 volunteer Vietnamese soldiers and experts who died for international missions in six northern Lao provinces.

Eleven sets of remains were found in two mass graves in Oudomxay province’s Nga district, while the remaining was uncovered in Ngoi district of Luang Prabang province.

They were found by the Military Zone 2’s searching team during the 2018-2019 dry season. In the period, the team has discovered and brought home remains of 42 volunteer Vietnamese soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in six northern Lao provinces of Oudomxay, Phongsaly, Sainyabuli, Luang Prabang, Luang Namtha and Bokeo.

Established in 1994, the team has so far found and repatriated over 1,730 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs.-VNA
