Remains of 18 Vietnamese martyrs reburied in Thanh Hoa

A ceremony to rebury the remains of 18 Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who lost their lives during wartime in Laos took place in Dong Tam international martyrs’ cemetery, the central province of Thanh Hoa on May 14.

Thanh Hoa (VNA) – A ceremony to rebury the remains of 18 Vietnamese voluntarysoldiers and experts who lost their lives during wartime in Laos took place in DongTam international martyrs’ cemetery, the central province of Thanh Hoa on May14.

The remainswere found in Laos and brought back to Vietnam by the provincial Military Command’ssearch team for martyrs’ remains during the 2018-2019 dry season.

Speaking atthe event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Tuan saidthe search, repatriation, and reburial of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers andexperts reflects the special sentiments towards those who dedicated their livesto independence and freedom in Vietnam and Laos.

Tuan saidthe provincial Party Committee, authorities, army, and people are determined tofoster the Vietnam-Laos friendship and special solidarity, as well as accomplishtasks set to make the noble dedications of war heroes worthwhile.

He conveyedhis profound thanks to leaders of the Lao Party, authorities, armed forces, andpeople, especially those in Houaphane province, and wished that both sideswould continue working closely together to search for and collect the missing remainsof other Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts in the near future.

Since 1998,the team has searched, unearthed, and repatriated 2,205 sets of remains ofVietnamese martyrs.

During the2018-2019 dry season, besides the 18 sets of remains found in Laos, the teamalso unearthed the remains of nine fallen soldiers in Vietnam. –VNA
