Dong Thap (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap held a conference in its Cao Lanh city on December 4 to seek ways to boost trade and investment partnership with Champasak, Salavan provinces and Vientiane city of Laos.
Addressing the event, part of the ongoing Dong Thap trade and investment fair 2018, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Chau Hong Phuc highlighted the sound solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos, as well as between Dong Thap and the three Lao localities in particular.
Along with various exchange activities, Champasak has presented many scholarships to Dong Thap officials to study the Lao language, while Dong Thap has received 27 Lao students to study at the province’s Medical College and Community College, he noted.
However, Phuc held that trade and investment activities between the two sides have yet to be effective, as only few businesses of Dong Thap are investing in and conducting trade activities with Salavan, Champasak and Vientiane while Dong Thap has yet to host any Lao firm.
At the conference, leaders of Dong Thap, Salavan, Champasak and Vientiane briefed each other of the potential and strengths of their localities, along with exchanging in-depth information on incentives and investment policies as well as goods transport, logistics, and import-export activities at border gates.
They sought ways to foster cooperation in several areas, especially aquatic product processing, pharmaceuticals and food, and agreed to continue strengthening trade and investment partnership as well as experience sharing in various fields.
On the occasion, the delegations from the three Lao localities made a field trip to a number of aquatic and agricultural farms of Dong Thap.-VNA
