Long An (VNA) – A ceremony to honour donors who made contributions to social security development in the Mekong Delta province of Long An, was held in the locality on September 12.
In recent years, Long An’s authorities have called for and received great support from businesses and individuals for social security activities in the province.
Donors have contributed to developing infrastructure facilities for traffic, agriculture, culture, education, and health care, and building houses for policy beneficiaries in Long An.
Notably, a programme launched by former State President Truong Tan Sang in 2016 has helped construct 204 rural bridges, 27 traffic culverts and one road in Long An.
Through the programme worth 612 billion VND (over 26.3 million USD), as many as 3,700 breeding cows were presented to poor and near poor families, while 16 schools and 154 charity houses were constructed, and charitable assistance activities were implemented.
In 2020 alone, nearly 78 billion VND of donation were spent on building and upgrading 1,860 houses for local poor households
On the occasion, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Van Can presented certificates of merit to 64 organisations and three individuals for their significant contributions to ensuring social security in the locality./.
