The legislative leader of the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea has reiterated the firm stand on traditional relations with Vietnam amidst complex developments in the world.

Kim Yong Nam , the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, described the relationship as an invaluable asset for the two nations during his reception of Vietnamese Ambassador Le Quang Ba in Pyongyang on April 28.

“To develop friendly and cooperative relations with Vietnam and to implement 2007 high-level commitments are the DPRK Party, Government and people’s unswerving position,” Kim said.

He expressed thanks to Vietnam for consistent assistance to the DPRK in its national construction and the cause for self-determination, peace and national reunification.

The DPRK leader briefed the Vietnamese ambassador on major developments in his country, emphasising that hostile forces would fail in sabotaging the current regime and provoking confrontations between north and south Korea .

“The DPRK people will always unite under the leadership of the Great Leader Kim Jong Il and the Workers’ Party of Korea to bring the revolutionary cause to final victory,” said the DPRK legislative leader.

Ba, who came to present credentials to the DPRK chairman, expressed the strong belief that bilateral relations will constantly develop.

He said his belief was based on the “foundation built by Vietnam’s first President, Ho Chi Minh and DPRK’s first President, Kim Il-sung, high-level commitments reached in 2007 during the visit by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, as well as determination by the two Parties, Governments and peoples”.

The new ambassador pledged to do his best to contribute to bilateral relations and mutual understanding.

The Vietnamese diplomat hailed the improvement of living conditions for the DPRK people during the national development.

He congratulated Kim Jong Il for his re-election as General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Kim Jong Un for his appointment as Vice Chairman of the Party’s Central Military Commission at the recent successful Party congress.

“All this will motivate the DPRK to succeed in building a powerful and prosperous country by 2012, the 100 th birth anniversary of its founder Kim Il-sung,” concluded the Vietnamese ambassador./.
