Hanoi (VNA) - Since its establishment, the Communist Party of Vietnam has held 11 Congresses. Each Congress is considered an important historical milestone in recognising the Vietnamese revolution’s victories, achievements and lessons.
The 11th National Party Congress blew a new breath and new hope, and created a high consensus and democratic atmosphere in the entire Party and people.
The Congress took place from January 12-19, 2011 in Hanoi with the attendance of 1,377 delegates, representing more than 3.6 million Party members.
The Congress adopted the updated platform of national construction during the transitional period towards socialism (supplemented and developed in 2011), the 2011-2020 Socio-Economic Development Strategy, the Report of the 10th Central Committee, the Party Statute (supplemented and revised) and many other documents of high importance.
The Congress elected a Central Committee of 175 official members and 25 alternate members. The Central Committee elected a Politburo of 14 members and a Secretariat of four members. Nguyen Phu Trong was elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
At the 7th Plenum of the Party Central Committee, two more members were elected to the Politburo and one to the Secretariat.-VNA
