Rome (VNA) - Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Duong Hai Hung conducted a working visit to the Sardinia region from May 13 to 15, engaging with local leaders and participating in activities aimed at fostering economic, cultural, and educational cooperation.

In their meetings with the diplomat, the region’s leaders expressed their hope that his visit will open up specific cooperation chances with Vietnam in such fields as commerce, investment, maritime affairs, tourism, and education.

President of the region Alessandra Todde announced a plan to send a delegation of local officials and businesses to visit Vietnam to explore collaboration and investment opportunities.

In response, Hung pledged the embassy’s coordination and support serving the organisation of the trip. He said Vietnam is planning a cooperative conference between the localities of both countries in Italy at the end of 2024, which will invite Sardinian localities and businesses.

Giuseppe De Matteis, Prefect of Sardinia's capital of Cagliari, lauded the contributions by the Vietnamese community. He said both Sardinia and Italy currently require more labour and urged the two countries to study and promote cooperation in this area.

Settimo Nizzi, Mayor of the city of Olbia, proposed stepping up locality-to-locality collaboration, especially in tourism, cultural exchange, and sports.
